What is an I-94 form?
An I-94 form is an important document issued by the United States government. It serves as evidence of an immigrant’s legal status in the U.S. It is a record showing a student’s lawful admission into the country, and should be presented upon entry. It is also known as an Arrival/Departure Record and is issued by the U.S Department of Homeland Security (DHS). When a student enters the U.S, they must present their I-94 form to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers. The I-94 form is white in color and usually has an 11-digit number on it. That number is the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) number and is used to track the student’s current status and any changes in it. The I-94 form is used to verify a student’s identity and status while attending school in the U.S. It is also used to ensure the student is adhering to the terms of their visa, if any. Any changes to a student’s status must go through DHS. The I-94 form is very important for students in Oregon and throughout the U.S. It is used to help ensure the student is following the laws and regulations governing their status in the country. Without it, the student may be in violation of immigration law.
