Can I transfer my visa from one school to another?
It is possible to transfer a visa from one school to another in Washington state if certain requirements are met. Generally, if you have a student visa, you are allowed to transfer between schools that are part of SEVP-certified programs. If you are enrolled in a school that is not SEVP-certified, you must first apply for release from your current school. In order to apply for transfer of your student visa, you must submit a new Form I-20 or “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status” from the new school. Once you submit the form, the new school must then certify it and submit it to the USCIS, or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Only then can the new school issue you a new student visa. You will also need to submit evidence of your educational goals, such as your school transcripts, completion of coursework, and/or any other documents required by the USCIS. Additionally, you must submit a letter from your current school confirming that you are in good academic standing and that they will release you to the new school. Once the USCIS has reviewed your application and approved your student visa transfer request, you will be able to attend the new school. It is important to note that the USCIS may deny your request for transfer of your student visa if you do not meet the required criteria or if the USCIS has reasonable cause to believe you are inadmissible to the United States. Therefore, it is important to properly document your educational and financial background before beginning the transfer process.
