What is the naturalization interview?
The naturalization interview is an important step in the citizenship process for immigrants in New Hampshire. This is the final step before an immigrant can become a naturalized U.S. citizen. During the interview, the applicant is tested on their knowledge of English as well as their understanding of U.S. government and history. The applicant will also be asked about any criminal activity and also be required to complete a sworn statement of allegiance to the United States. The naturalization interview is conducted by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). During the interview, the USCIS officer will test the applicant on various topics such as the meaning of democracy, the rights and responsibilities of American citizens, and how the government works. The officer will also check the applicant’s background and ask them questions about their application. To pass the interview, the applicant must answer correctly at least six out of ten civics questions. The naturalization interview is the last step before an applicant can become a naturalized U.S. citizen. After passing the interview, the applicant will be issued a Certificate of Naturalization and the applicant’s name and picture will be added to the National Registry of Citizens. This is a formal process that can take several months, depending on the situation. The USCIS expects all applicants to be prepared for the naturalization interview and to be able to answer all questions in order to become a naturalized U.S. citizen.
