How do I become a legal permanent resident?
In order to become a legal permanent resident of South Carolina, you must first apply for and gain an immigrant visa. You can apply for an immigrant visa through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The USCIS will review your application and determine whether you are eligible for an immigrant visa. The USCIS also processes applications for green cards, which are issued to legal permanent residents. To apply for an immigrant visa, you must first meet certain eligibility requirements. Generally, you must have qualifying family ties in the United States, such as a spouse, child, or parent who is a U.S. citizen, or you must have a job offer from an employer in the United States. You must also provide proof of your identity and background, including your criminal history. Once your application for an immigrant visa has been approved, you must go through a medical examination and complete additional paperwork. After these steps have been completed, the USCIS will interview you to assess your application and determine if you are a good candidate to become a legal permanent resident. If the USCIS approves your application, you will receive an immigrant visa. You must then travel to the U.S. and present your visa to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer to gain admission into the country. Upon arrival, you will be issued a green card and can apply for U.S. citizenship after a period of time.
