What is an immigrant visa?

An immigrant visa is a document that allows someone to enter and remain in a country they are not a citizen of. In Idaho, an immigrant visa is a form of permission that is issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). It allows a foreign national to travel to the United States to live and work there permanently. An immigrant visa is issued to those who meet certain requirements. This may include having a qualifying job offer in the United States, being granted refugee or asylum status, or having a close family member who is a United States citizen. The visa is valid for six months and can be renewed every year. In order to be eligible for an immigrant visa, the applicant must demonstrate that they will not become a public charge for the U.S. government. This means they must prove they will not rely on government assistance programs for financial support. An applicant must also show that they have enough financial resources to support themselves and their family once in the United States. Once an immigrant visa is granted, the applicant must still receive an entry clearance from the United States embassy in their home country. Once they arrive in the United States, they can then apply for a green card, which allows them to remain and work in the country on a permanent basis.
