How do I apply for a Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)?

If you are an immigrant who wishes to live and work permanently in the state of Idaho, you will need to apply for a Permanent Resident Card, commonly known as a Green Card. To obtain a Green Card, you must be sponsored or “sponsored” by a family member, employer or other qualifying organization in the United States. The first step in applying for a Green Card is to complete Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative. This form must be completed by your relative, employer or other qualifying organization in the United States. If granted, this form will establish a valid relationship with you and your sponsor. Once your Form I-130 is approved, you must then submit Form I-485, Application for Adjustment of Status. This form must be filed with the USCIS office that serves the state of Idaho. Along with this form, applicants must submit supporting documents, such as an affidavit of support, a health certificate, and proof of identity and employment eligibility. Lastly, you must submit your fingerprints and appear for an in-person interview with USCIS officers. You may also need to submit additional documents and information prior to the interview. Interviews are held to ensure that applicants meet the criteria for a Green Card. If your application for a Green Card is approved, you will receive your Permanent Resident Card in the mail after completing all the steps. It is important to remember that all documents, forms, and fees associated with your application must be accurately completed in order to obtain your Green Card.
