What is a humanitarian parole?
Humanitarian parole is a type of immigration benefit that allows a person to come into the United States for a limited period of time. It is a form of discretionary relief that is granted by the United States government to individuals who are in need of humanitarian assistance. The government may grant humanitarian parole to individuals who are facing extreme hardship, in order to give them the chance to temporarily stay in the United States. In Indiana, humanitarian parole may be granted in cases such as when a person is facing natural disaster or political persecution that would make it difficult or dangerous for them to leave the United States. It can also be used to help reunite families when a foreign parent is unable to enter the United States for valid reasons. In order to qualify for humanitarian parole, an individual must demonstrate that their presence is necessary for humanitarian purposes and that they meet some other criteria such as having a valid medical condition or a family member in the United States who is unable to travel. It is important to note that humanitarian parole is not a path to citizenship, but rather a temporary solution in order to avoid separation of families or other human rights violations.
