What are the main topics of international law?

International law is a broad legal field that governs the conduct of countries, their governments, and individuals in relation to one another. Broadly speaking, there are three main topics of international law: The first is public international law, which regulates the relations between states and between intergovernmental organizations. This includes rules governing the use of force, trade, treaties, human rights, and the environment. The second is private international law, which describes the rules of conflict between private citizens of different countries. This includes determining which country’s laws should be applied in international disputes, as well as rules governing international family law, such as marriage, adoption, and divorce. The third is international criminal law, which regulates behavior that is seen as a crime in all countries. This includes terrorism, piracy, and genocide. International criminal law is different from domestic criminal law in that it imposes obligations on individual countries to prosecute international criminals. In Tennessee, international law is important because it helps ensure that all countries are playing by the same rules and establishes principles of equitable behaviour. The state must also comply with international law in its domestic actions, as there are numerous international treaties and agreements to which it is a party.
