What is the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism (FTT)?

The International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism (FTT) is a United Nations treaty ratified by more than 180 countries, including New Hampshire in 2007. The treaty establishes a framework to criminalize terrorist financing, primarily by requiring states to adopt national laws that make it illegal to provide money or any other resources (i.e. goods, services, and technology) with the knowledge or intention that these resources will be used to carry out a terrorist act. Other major initiatives include the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373, which requires all countries to criminalize terrorism, and the Financial Action Task Force, which develops standards for combating terrorist financing and money laundering.
