The International Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CG) is an international law that was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. This convention made it an international crime for any individual or group of individuals to commit any of the five acts of genocide. These acts include killing members of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group; causing serious physical or mental harm to members of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group; deliberately inflicting on members of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction; imposing measures intended to prevent births within a group; and forcibly transferring children from one group to another. For the state of Florida, all five acts of genocide are illegal and punishable by law. This means that if an individual in Florida were to commit any act of genocide as established by the CG, they could be prosecuted both in and out of the state. In addition, it is important to note that since the CG is an international law, any individual who is found guilty of committing genocide could be subject to prosecution in an international court of law.
