What is an insurance policy?
An insurance policy is a legal contract between an insurance company and an individual or business. It outlines the terms and conditions of the relationship, including what type of insurance coverage is provided, the cost of the policy, and any deductibles or co-payments. In Idaho, an insurance policy will also include information on the policyholder’s rights and responsibilities. In general, an insurance policy is a promise of protection in case of an unexpected, covered loss. For example, if someone buys a health insurance policy, the policy may guarantee coverage for medical expenses or loss of income due to an illness or injury. Homeowners insurance may cover damages incurred from fire, wind, hail, and other disasters. In Idaho, all insurance policies have to be approved by the Department of Insurance. Insurance companies must also adhere to specific regulations in order to sell policies in the state. Furthermore, insurance policies are required to meet certain standards set by the state in order to be legally binding. In summary, an insurance policy is a contractual agreement between an insurance company and a policyholder that details the terms of coverage and any deductibles or other payments required. It provides financial protection in the event of an unexpected, covered loss or damage.
