What types of damages are covered by insurance?
In New Jersey, insurance law provides certain protections to policyholders. When a policyholder makes a claim for certain damages, their insurance company may provide coverage for those damages. Generally, the types of damages covered by insurance include physical property damage, such as damage to a car or home, as well as financial losses, such as medical bills or a lawsuit settlement. Property damage may also include damage to another person’s property, including their car. In addition, some policies may cover the cost of living expenses, such as home repairs, temporary housing, or replacing lost items, resulting from certain covered incidents. This type of coverage is most commonly found in homeowners insurance policies. Insurance policies will also typically cover bodily injury to a person involved in an accident, regardless of fault. In the event of a slip-and-fall accident, for example, insurance may cover medical expenses for the injured party. Finally, certain insurance policies may also cover damage caused by natural disasters, such as floods or fires, as well as cover any legal expenses resulting from a lawsuit. What type of damages are covered by insurance will depend on the type of policy the policyholder has. It’s important to read the policy documents carefully to understand the coverage the policy offers.
