What are the responsibilities of an insurance adjuster?

An insurance adjuster is responsible for processing claims made by policyholders to cover losses or damages that they incurred. In Rhode Island, adjusters have the duty of investigating and evaluating the claim to determine what coverage, if any, is available for the policyholder under the terms of their insurance policy. They must also fairly determine the amount of compensation that should be given, if any, and must be able to work with both policyholders and insurance companies in order to find viable, cost-effective solutions. Adjusters are also responsible for maintaining a high degree of professionalism and integrity during the claims process. They must remain impartial and unbiased in their decisions to make sure that the policyholder is receiving the best possible outcome. Adjusters must also be up to date on the most current insurance laws and regulations in the state, and must have a solid understanding of the claims process from start to finish. They must also be knowledgeable about the claims process within their area of expertise, be it auto, home, or life insurance. Finally, adjusters must be organized and able to efficiently manage their workload. They must be good communicators, and must be able to work with policyholders to ensure that they are receiving the coverage they are entitled to under the terms of their policy.
