What is the role of an insurance adjuster?

An insurance adjuster is an individual who analyzes insurance claims and investigates any losses to determine the amount of compensation an insurance company should pay out. In New Jersey, insurance adjusters play an essential role in the process of settling disputes between insurance companies and policyholders. An insurance adjuster will first review the insurance policy to ensure that the claim is valid. They will then investigate the scene of the loss to determine the cause and evaluate the extent of the damage. After this, they will estimate the cost of repairs and decide how much compensation should be awarded to the policyholder. Adjusters may also need to interview witnesses or consult medical records if the claim involves injury. The adjuster will then review their findings with the policyholder and if the parties disagree, the adjuster will negotiate a fair settlement. In some cases, an adjuster may even arrange for the insurer to pay for medical care or temporary housing while repairs are being made. At the end of the process, the adjuster will prepare a report and present it to the insurance company. The adjuster’s job is to protect the interests of the insurance company while also making sure that the policyholder is fairly compensated.
