What is the role of an insurance adjuster?

An insurance adjuster is a professional who works on behalf of an insurance company or agency. Their job is to assess and investigate claims for damages or losses that policyholders have made, and to negotiate a settlement that is fair to both parties. Adjusters usually spend a lot of their time visiting the scene of the claim and interviewing witnesses. They’ll collect as much relevant information as possible to determine who is responsible for any property damage or medical bills. Adjusters also review the policyholder’s claim form and all supporting documentation to ensure accuracy. Once all the evidence has been gathered, the adjuster will evaluate the claim and determine whether or not it should be covered by the insurance policy. If the adjuster decides the claim is valid, they’ll work with the policyholder to calculate a settlement that is fair to both parties. This settlement may include medical bills, replacement costs for any damaged property, and/or reimbursement for any lost wages due to the accident. In North Dakota, adjusters must be licensed by the North Dakota Insurance Department and must comply with all state regulations. Adjusters must also be aware of any changes to the law and have the necessary training in order to properly handle claims. Insurance adjusters play an important role in the insurance industry, and it’s their job to ensure policyholders receive an equitable settlement.
