Are there any laws concerning the circulation of malicious software on the Internet?
In North Carolina, there are laws that prohibit the circulation of malicious software on the Internet, also known as malware. Malware is any malicious code or program that can be used to intentionally damage or disrupt a computer or network. The North Carolina Computer Crimes Act makes it illegal for any person to release computer viruses or any other malicious software without the authorization of the owner of the affected computers. This includes any malicious software intended to gain unauthorized access to data or disrupt a computer system. It also prohibits the distribution of malicious software over the Internet or on any other online system. The North Carolina Computer Crimes Act also includes a section pertaining to cyber security, which prohibits the illegal interception of computer communications. Any person who intentionally accesses or intercepts a computer communication without authorization or passes on the intercepted communication to another person is in violation of this law. It is also important to note that the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act also covers malicious software that is circulated on the Internet. This act makes it illegal to access or download protected information from a computer or online system without authorization, as well as to damage or disrupt any computer system. In addition, this act also prohibits any person from making false representations or engaging in deceptive conduct with respect to such activities.
