Are there any laws related to online harassment and bullying?

Yes, Kansas does have laws related to online harassment and bullying. In 2017, the Kansas legislature passed an amendment to the Kansas code that made online bullying a Class B misdemeanor. Under this law, anyone found to have engaged in online bullying or harassment can be convicted and face up to six months in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000. In addition, the Kansas legislature has also passed laws to protect children from cyberbullying. In 2020, the legislature passed the Kansas Anti-Cyberbullying Act, which makes it a crime for anyone to use electronic communication to bully, intimidate, or threaten a minor. The penalties for this can include jail time, fines, and/or community service. In order to help prevent online harassment and bullying, Kansas has also implemented a variety of educational initiatives. The Kansas Department of Education provides online resources to help students, school personnel, and parents recognize and respond to bullying. In addition, the state also provides resources to help students create a safe and respectful online environment. These initiatives are designed to help educate students on the consequences of online harassment and bullying, how to recognize it, and how to report it.
