How is an investment law amended?
In Washington, investment laws are amended through a process called legislative enactment. This process begins with a bill being introduced to the legislature. This bill contains the language of the proposed amendment to the investment law. The bill then goes to committee for review and discussion, with the legislature deciding whether to allow the amendment to move forward. If the amendment is approved by the legislative body, it is then sent to the governor for signing. After the governor signs the bill into law, the amendment becomes part of the investment law in Washington. The amendment may also require state agencies to make changes to other laws and regulations that are impacted by the amendment. This process can take several months and will often involve public hearings to ensure that the amendment is in the best interest of the public. Before being approved, the amendment must also be approved by the attorney general’s office and the office of the state treasurer. Once the amendment is approved and implemented, it must then be monitored and kept up-to-date to ensure that it remains in compliance with all current laws and regulations. This process is necessary to ensure that the investment law in Washington is not outdated and remains effective for the people of the state.
