What is an investment fund?
An investment fund is an organized pool of money collected from multiple sources that is invested in a variety of securities. It is managed by professional asset managers with the purpose of achieving a specific set of goals or objectives. Investment funds are typically offered by banks and other financial institutions, and shareholders buy units of the fund to become part-owners of the fund and share in its profits. In Florida, investment funds must be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) before they can be offered to the public. Investment funds are also subject to state laws, including rules and regulations regarding fees, fees for services, and tax treatments. Investment funds come in a variety of structures and can include mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), closed-end funds, hedge funds, private equity funds, and real estate investment trusts (REITs). Each type of fund has its own structure and regulations, so investors should do their research before investing in a particular fund.
