What is International Intellectual Property Law?

International Intellectual Property Law is a set of laws that protect intellectual property rights which exist internationally, in multiple countries. Intellectual property is any property associated with the human intellect such as inventions, written works of authors, trademarks, symbols, and more. International Intellectual Property Law is meant to protect the rights of the creators of the intellectual material, as well as the owners of the intellectual property. In South Carolina, International Intellectual Property Law falls under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which is responsible for protecting patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Patents are granted to inventors and give them the exclusive rights to their invention. Trademarks are words, symbols, and designs that identify the manufacturer or the product. Copyrights are granted to authors, giving them exclusive rights to their literary and artistic works. International Intellectual Property Law is designed to give creators an incentive to create new and innovative products and works. It also protects them from having their inventions and works stolen and used by someone else. International Intellectual Property Law also helps to foster innovation and a thriving economy. It encourages creators to create new products instead of copying existing ones, and allows them to make a profit from their original works.
