What is a software copyright?

A software copyright is a type of Intellectual Property (IP) Law that specifically protects computer programs and software from being used, copied, or distributed without permission from the creator. In New Mexico, software copyright is protected by the federal Copyright Act, which grants legal protection to the creators of original works such as software. Through the Copyright Act, the creator is granted exclusive rights to their creation, allowing them to control how it is used or distributed without the option of another individual infringing or using it without permission. Software copyright enables the creator of a computer program to protect it from being replicated or taken by another user without their authorization. They are also given the right to be compensated for any usage of their software, whether this usage is direct or indirect. This means that the creator of the software is able to reap the benefits of their hard work and are able to prevent their software from being taken away and used by someone else without their permission. Software copyright is an important intellectual property law in New Mexico. It is designed to provide creators with the protection they need in order to get the most out of their software, and ensure that they receive proper compensation from any usage of their work. Without software copyright, many creators would not be able to reap the full benefits of their hard work, and their software would be at risk of being stolen and misused.
