What is copyright infringement?

Copyright infringement is a violation of the exclusive rights of a copyright owner under the copyright laws of Indiana. This exclusive right is given to a copyright owner/creator for a creative work or intellectual property such as a book, movie, song, artwork, software, or any other unique creation. Copyright infringement occurs when a person copies or uses a substantial part of this work without permission from the copyright owner. In other words, copyright infringement is a violation of a copyright owner’s exclusive right to reproduce and use their own work. Copyright infringement can take many forms such as photocopying, digital copying, and sharing material online. It is illegal to make or distribute copies of another person’s creative work without permission. It is also illegal to make changes to or use a creative work in a way that damages or devalues it. Copyright laws in Indiana are designed to protect original works, and copyright infringement can carry serious legal consequences.
