What is the process for obtaining a license to become an insurance producer?

In South Carolina, all persons interested in becoming an insurance producer must obtain a license from the Department of Insurance. A license grants permission to sell insurance policies and transact business as an insurance producer. In order to obtain a license, an applicant must complete the following steps: Step 1: First, complete the producer licensing application and submit it along with the $45 application fee and the applicable examination fee. Step 2: Once the application is reviewed by the Department of Insurance, an approval or denial letter is issued. If the application is approved, the applicant may sit for the examination. Step 3: After passing the examination, the applicant will be issued a license. To remain licensed, a producer must also complete continuing education courses as required by the state. Step 4: Renew your license every two years. The renewal fee is $50 and the continuing education requirements must be met in order to renew the license. Applying for an insurance producer license in South Carolina is a straightforward process. Once all of the requirements have been fulfilled and the fees have been paid, the applicant will be granted a license to transact business as an insurance producer.
