What are the requirements for obtaining an insurance license?
In Maryland, all individuals and organizations who wish to act as insurance producers must meet certain requirements and obtain a license before they can legally do so. To obtain an insurance license in Maryland, individuals must be at least 18 years of age, must successfully complete an approved pre-licensing course, pass an insurance examination, have acceptable character qualifications, and meet any other specific requirements set by the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA). In addition to these requirements, Maryland requires that all insurance producers be fingerprinted, as well as undergo a criminal background check. Insurance producers must also complete an online or mailed application to the MIA and include a $50 processing fee. Organizations who wish to obtain an insurance license in Maryland must also meet certain requirements. These requirements include designating one individual to serve as a responsible managing employee, and that individual must meet the same requirements as an individual producer. Organizations must submit a business entity application, fingerprinting cards, and a $200 fee to the MIA for processing. The Maryland Insurance Administration is responsible for processing all applications and regulating all insurance producers in the state. Individuals and organizations must stay informed on relevant laws and regulations and make sure to abide by them at all times.
