What are the requirements for obtaining an insurance license?
In Texas, individuals who wish to obtain an insurance license must meet certain requirements. In order to be eligible for a license, applicants must be 18 years of age or older, be a resident of the state of Texas, have successfully completed an approved course of study in insurance, and have passed the appropriate examinations. The Texas Department of Insurance has established a mandatory pre-licensing course for life, health and accident insurance, and property and casualty insurance. This course requires applicants to complete a minimum of 30 hours of instruction. After completing this course, applicants must pass the specified examinations with a passing grade. The state of Texas also requires individuals to pass a background check. This background check includes a search for any criminal convictions, medications offenses, or any other negative information that may disqualify applicants from obtaining a license. Finally, applicants must complete the necessary forms from the Texas Department of Insurance to apply for an insurance license. Once the forms are submitted, applicants may be contacted for interviews and further examinations. If approved, applicants can receive their license as early as two to four weeks.
