What is the Fair Labor Association (FLA)?

The Fair Labor Association (FLA) is an international non-governmental organization that was established in 1999 to collaborate with industry, governments, universities, and NGOs to improve labor standards in the global economy. The FLA works to ensure that working conditions in factories comply with international labor standards by monitoring working conditions on the ground, engaging with brands and industry supply chain partners, and helping to implement systems of access to remedy for workers. In North Carolina, the FLA works to improve the rights of workers in international trade through various programs. These programs include monitoring of labor standards in apparel and footwear factories; partnering with brands, suppliers and governments to ensure that worker rights are honored; and promoting organizations working to protect workers at the local level. The FLA also supports efforts to provide workers with access to remedies in cases of unfair labor practices. The Fair Labor Association is committed to working together with all stakeholders to ensure that global labor standards are met and that workers are protected and respected. Its core values are: transparency, respect, and collaboration. The FLA works with North Carolina businesses to build a culture of respect for workers and the environment, and to ensure compliance with global labor standards.
