What is leasing law?
Leasing law is the area of law that governs leasing agreements. This type of law applies in Washington and is designed to protect both the tenant and the landlord when it comes to leasing a piece of property. Leasing law sets out clear expectations between the tenant and landlord regarding rent payments, up keep of the property, and resolving any disputes that may arise between the two parties. Leasing from residential to commercial properties is governed by the same set of leasing laws, as the rules of the agreement, for example the length of a lease or the terms of a lease agreement, are the same for both parties. Leases are typically written documents and must be in compliance with State and Federal laws to prevent any unfairness or unenforceable terms. Leasing law is put in place to ensure fair and equal leasing agreement between the tenant and landlord. Additionally, the law requires landlords to meet certain safety standards and grants renters certain rights before they enter into an agreement. All in all, leasing law is a very important area of law in the State of Washington as it helps protect both tenants and landlords.
