How much alcohol can a person legally consume in a single sitting?

In Montana, the legal drinking age is 21. Under state law, it is illegal to consume or possess an alcoholic beverage if you are younger than 21. For those 21 and older, the legal limit for alcohol consumption is .08 blood alcohol concentration (BAC) or higher. This means that a person can only have up to .08% of alcohol in their blood before being considered legally intoxicated. However, the laws do not state a maximum amount of alcohol that a person can consume in a single sitting. Generally, the amount of alcohol that a person can safely consume before reaching the legal limit of .08 BAC depends on many factors such as their body weight, gender, type and amount of alcohol consumed, and time span over which the alcohol was consumed. It is important to note that even if a person is not legally intoxicated, they can still be convicted of DUI and/or face criminal charges for driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. For this reason, the safest practice is for adults to avoid drinking any amount of alcohol when planning on driving.
