What are the legal requirements related to animal control and public welfare?

In Delaware, animal control and public welfare are regulated by the Delaware Animal Welfare Laws. The objective of these laws is to promote the humane care and treatment of animals, and ensure the safety of citizens. Under the Delaware Animal Welfare Laws, all pet animals must be vaccinated, licensed, and kept under control. Animal cruelty is strictly prohibited and violators may be subject to fines and imprisonment. The Delaware Department of Agriculture is responsible for enforcing the laws and issuing permits for pet shops, kennels, and other businesses related to animal welfare. The Delaware Animal Welfare Laws also provide protection for the public’s welfare. It is illegal to own, harbor, or sell any wild animal in the state. This includes large cats, bears, primates, wolves, and venomous snakes. Exotic animals may only be kept with a permit from the Department of Agriculture. In addition, Delaware prohibits animal fighting and has specific laws regarding the proper care and disposal of dead animals. The state also prohibits the sale of live animals as bait or food to other animals or humans. All persons found guilty of violating the Delaware Animal Welfare Laws are subject to criminal penalties.
