What is right to work?
Right to work is a labor law that guarantees employees the right to work without being forced or required to join a union or pay union dues. In Pennsylvania, the right to work law is established by the Labor Relations Act of 1937, which states that employers are forbidden from refusing to hire or discriminate against any employee because of their labor organization membership or nonmembership. This means that if an employee chooses not to join a union, the employer must still hire and treat them the same as any other employee. This also applies to union dues, as an employer cannot require an employee to pay any dues, fees, or assessments in order to become employed with the company. The purpose of this law is to ensure that employees have the right to choose whether or not to join a union without fear of termination or discrimination.
