What is the minimum age for a couple to get married without parental permission?

In Washington, the minimum age for a married couple to get married without parental permission is eighteen (18). If at least one of the parties is eighteen (18) or older, no parental consent is required. If one of the parties is between sixteen (16) and eighteen (18) years old, a parent or legal guardian must give their consent. If a couple wishes to marry without parental consent when one or both of the parties are under the age of sixteen (16), they must first obtain a court order. The court will require a petition to be filed and may, at their discretion, require the couple to attend counseling prior to granting the order. In addition, some counties may have additional requirements and restrictions on marriage of minors. Washington does not currently have a law that requires couples to be of any minimum age to receive a marriage license. Other states, such as New York and California, do have such laws, which state that individuals must be at least eighteen (18) years old to marry without parental consent. In conclusion, the minimum age for a couple to get married without parental permission in Washington is eighteen (18). However, anyone younger than eighteen (18) must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian and couples sixteen (16) years of age or younger must obtain a court order in order to marry.
