Are there any restrictions on the types of medical marijuana that can be prescribed?
Yes, there are restrictions on the types of medical marijuana that can be prescribed in Washington. According to the Washington State Department of Health, medical marijuana products must be composed of only three flowers, of which no more than two may be cured. Additionally, products must follow Washington’s safety regulations and must include only natural ingredients. Most importantly, medical marijuana products cannot contain any intoxicants or adulterants. This means that the products must not contain any substances like alcohol, nicotine, or illicit drugs. In order to have their medical marijuana product approved, a medical provider must submit an application to the state department of health. If approved, the medical provider can then have the medical marijuana products made by an approved manufacturer and provide it to their patients. Patients may also be allowed to purchase medical marijuana products from licensed dispensaries. In addition to these restrictions, there are also limits to the amount of medical marijuana that can be prescribed. A patient’s physician can only prescribe a 30-day supply of medical marijuana and any more would require additional approval from the state department of health. Furthermore, only products that are labeled as medical marijuana and contain a valid measurement of the active ingredient are allowed to be prescribed. By following these restrictions, medical marijuana products can be safely produced and prescribed for Washington state residents.
