What are the residency requirements for filing for a military divorce?

In Florida, residency requirements must be met before filing for a military divorce. If one of the spouses is a member of the US military, the petitioner (person filing for the divorce) must have been a resident of the state for a minimum of six months before filing. The petitioner or their spouse must be stationed at a military base in Florida, or be a legal resident of the state, or a former resident of the state whose last military station of duty was in Florida, or the petitioner or their spouse must currently be stationed in Florida on active military duty. If one of the spouses is not in the military, the petitioner must have been a resident of Florida for at least the past six months. In addition, the petitioner must also have lived in the county where they are filing the divorce petition for at least the past three months. In all cases, the court must have jurisdiction, or legal authority, over the case in order to grant a military divorce. This means that the case must meet the residency requirements before the court can proceed. The court also has the power to determine if the residency requirement has been met.
