What is the law concerning the carriage of goods by sea?

Maritime Law in New Mexico is a branch of law that deals with the carriage of goods by sea. It governs the rights and duties of those who own, build, construct, load, unload, and transport goods on the sea, as well as those who provide services related to maritime operations. Maritime Law is an important part of the business of shipping by sea. Many different certificates and documents of title are used to regulate the possession and transfer of goods by sea. Carriers must have documents such as Bills of Lading or Sea Waybills that act as proof of title to the goods on board. These documents must be properly generated and issued, and they signify the ownership of the goods being shipped. Carriers are also responsible for ensuring that the goods are properly loaded and secured, and maritime law states that proper care must be taken to ensure the safe passage of the goods throughout the voyage. The carrier is liable for any damage or loss suffered to the goods while they are at sea. In the event of a dispute between carriers and owners of goods, the Carrier’s Liability Act of New Mexico sets out that carriers are obligated to pay fair value or the full value of the goods lost or damaged, regardless of fault. This is only true if the carrier is proven to be at fault and responsible for the loss or damage of the goods. The carrier must then cover the costs of replacing the goods.
