What international conventions are related to persons with disabilities?

Maritime Law in Nevada has specific rules when it comes to persons with disabilities. International conventions related to the rights of persons with disabilities include the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 159 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) from 2006. The ILO Convention No. 159 deals with the vocational rehabilitation and employment of disabled people. It combines a human rights-based approach to promoting work and productivity with a need for social security measures. The Convention also encourages employers to take steps to make sure that disabled people have access to the same opportunities as everyone else. The UNCRPD promotes the full and equal enjoyment by persons with disabilities of their rights and freedoms. Its provisions cover various areas, from education, rights in the workplace, access to justice and freedom from exploitation to the right to live independently and be included in the community. It also promotes the recognition of sign language and the use of braille. The Convention also covers the rights of the disabled to their own opinion, to be consulted on decisions about their health and care, and to access services in the most suitable way for their needs.
