What are the criteria for registering to vote in a municipal election?
In order to register to vote in a municipal election in Texas, you must first meet certain criteria. First, you must be a United States citizen. Second, you must be a legal resident of the State of Texas and the county or municipality in which you are registering. Third, you must be at least 18 years old on Election Day. Fourth, you must not have been determined mentally incapacitated by a court, and fifth, you must not have been finally convicted of a felony, or if you have, your voting rights must have been restored. You can register to vote by mail, in person, or online. To register by mail, you must complete the voter registration application form and either mail it or return it in person to the county voter registrar. To register in person, you must visit your local county voter registrar’s office. To register online, go to the website of the Secretary of State, fill out the application, and click submit. Once you register to vote, your name will remain on the voter registration list until you move, when you need to update your address, or when you become ineligible to vote.
