What is parole and probation law?
Parole and probation law is a type of criminal justice system that is used in West Virginia and many other states throughout the United States. It is a system that allocates duties and rights to both parole officers and probation officers. A parole officer works with parolees that have been sentenced to prison for a criminal offense and are released early on parole, and they monitor the parolee to ensure they are adhering to certain conditions set out between them and the parole board. On the other hand, probation officers work with individuals who have been found guilty of a criminal offense, but instead of receiving a prison sentence, they are given a probation sentence and must report to their probation officer. The probation officer ensures that the probationer is adhering to the conditions of their probation sentence, such as participating in community service. Parole and probation law also involves setting out certain rules and regulations to ensure that the parolees and probationers are given the opportunity to remain in the community while not violating the terms of their parole or probation. This type of criminal justice system helps to reduce the jail and prison population and to give nonviolent offenders a chance to remain in the community.
