How does my parole or probation officer know if I have been arrested for a new offense?
In West Virginia, your parole or probation officer will be informed if you are arrested for a new offense. When you are arrested, the police are required by law to inform your parole or probation officer. The police will also send a copy of the arrest report to your parole or probation officer. Your parole or probation officer will also receive a court docket sheet which lists all of the charges against you. Additionally, your parole or probation officer will likely be informed by the court of any motions or hearings concerning your case. Your parole or probation officer may also be notified by your attorney, who is required to tell your parole or probation officer if they have been retained to represent you in a case. It is important to remember that it is your responsibility to inform your parole or probation officer if you get arrested for a new offense. If you fail to do so, you may be in violation of your parole or probation and may be subject to additional charges.
