What happens if the terms of my parole or probation are modified or changed?
If the terms of your parole or probation are modified or changed in Michigan, you will be informed of the changes. The parole or probation officer will then discuss with you how the changes affect your sentence and what new requirements you must meet. For instance, you may be asked to serve more time in jail, be placed on an electronic tether, or have an increase in regular reporting or contact with your parole or probation officer. It is important to note that any changes to your parole or probation must not be greater than your original sentence. In other words, the modifications to your sentence should not be more severe than what you have already been ordered to do by the court. Furthermore, before the changes to your parole or probation can become permanent, the judge presiding over the case must sign off on the new terms. If the amendments are not approved by the judge, you must continue to follow your original sentence. It is essential that you stay in contact with your parole or probation officer and comply with all of the terms of your sentence. If you fail to do so, you could be found in violation of your parole or probation and face additional consequences.
