What is the law regarding the distribution of pharmaceuticals?
In North Carolina, the law regarding the distribution of pharmaceuticals is governed by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy. The Board is responsible for developing regulations and ensuring the safe use of pharmaceuticals. The Board has set forth regulations in regards to the prescription, storage, distribution, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. All pharmacies must be licensed by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, and the license must be renewed on an annual basis. Furthermore, the board requires that all pharmacies keep accurate and current records of all prescription and non-prescription drugs stored or distributed. The Board also requires that all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians be licensed and attend continuing education courses to ensure they stay up-to-date on the latest developments in pharmaceuticals. Furthermore, all pharmacists must keep accurate patient records of all drugs dispensed and consult with the patient’s physician when needed. Lastly, the Board has set forth certain distribution standards for pharmaceuticals, including that they cannot be sold, offered for sale, or given away without a valid prescription. Furthermore, any medication in the possession of a pharmacy must be of the proper strength, dosage, and form. Any violations of these standards could result in disciplinary action against the pharmacy or its personnel.
