What are the requirements for the evaluation of drugs?
In Alabama, the evaluation of drugs, also known as Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) programs, is overseen by the Alabama Department of Public Safety (DPS). In order to evaluate drugs, the Alabama DPS must use a standardized system approved by the legislature. This system requires drug recognition experts (DREs) to use their training and experience to assess suspected drug use. DREs use a 12-step process known as “Drug Influence Evaluation” to make an assessment. This process includes observations of the individual’s physical and mental condition, such as pupil size, balance, speech, and other assessments. Once the DRE has completed the evaluation, the results are collected and reviewed. If the evaluation is found to be accurate and the individual is found to be under the influence of drugs, the evidence collected will serve as the basis for prosecution. The State of Alabama also requires mandatory drug testing for individuals suspected of drug use. In addition, Alabama drug laws require an evaluation of possible adulterants in drugs. This process requires testing of the drug sample for any impurities or substances that may have been added to the drug before it was sold or distributed. This is known as adulteration testing, and it helps to ensure that the drug is safe and hasn’t been mixed with any dangerous substances. The evaluation of drugs is an important part of the drug enforcement process in Alabama. It helps to ensure that drug users are identified and held accountable, while ensuring that the public is protected from the potential dangers of drug use.
