In North Carolina, there are special requirements for obtaining a prescription drug for a minor. According to the North Carolina General Statutes, in order for a minor to obtain a prescription drug, a physician or other authorized healthcare professional must provide written consent prior to the medication being dispensed. Additionally, an adult must be present with the minor when the medication is dispensed, unless certain conditions exist. The adult present must either be a parent or guardian of the minor, or if neither is present, an adult who is provided written permission by the parent or guardian and has been designated to pick up the medication. Furthermore, the pharmacy must have written consent prior to filling any prescription for a minor.
