In West Virginia, the distribution of prescription drugs is highly regulated. Generally, pharmacists must use special forms prescribed by the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy to dispense any prescription medications. For Schedule II drugs, the forms must be completely filled out and signed before the drugs can be dispensed. Additionally, the pharmacist must keep a record of every Schedule II drug dispensed. Prescription drugs must also be dispensed in their original containers with the original label. In West Virginia, it is illegal to dispense, purchase, or possess a controlled substance without a valid prescription and/or registration. As such, there is a strict enforcement of these regulations, and knowingly violating them can result in criminal charges.
