What data is protected under the CCPA?
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a privacy law passed in 2018 to protect the privacy of consumers in the state of Utah. This law protects a variety of sensitive data by giving consumers the right to see what information companies are collecting about them and the right to opt-out of the sale of their personal information. The CCPA protects personal information such as an individual’s name, Social Security number, driver’s license number, biometric data, geolocation data, email address, health records and financial information. It also covers information related to precise physical location, IP addresses, internet activity, employment information, and education records. In addition, the CCPA provides consumers with the right to request that companies delete their data, the right to know about the third-party companies to which the personal data is being sold, and the right to opt out of the sale of their data. Furthermore, companies must inform consumers of the right to opt-out of the sale of their data upon request. The CCPA also regulates how companies use personal data by prohibiting companies from engaging in unfair and deceptive practices when collecting, using, and selling personal information. These regulations apply to websites, mobile applications, and other technology that consume data online. Overall, the CCPA protects the data of consumers in the state of Utah by giving them control over what companies can do with their personal information and by affording them the right to know who their data is being sold to and the right to opt-out.
