What rights do tenants have?

Tenants in Kansas have certain legal rights when it comes to their rental property. These include the right to quiet enjoyment, which means that disruptive behavior by either the landlord or another tenant is not allowed; the right to a habitable dwelling, meaning that the landlord must maintain the rental in a reasonably safe and healthy condition; the right to privacy, meaning that the landlord must give notice before entering the premises; and the right to due process, meaning the landlord must follow specific procedures if they decide to terminate the lease or evict the tenant. Additionally, tenants in Kansas are protected from discrimination and retaliatory actions from the landlord by state and federal law. Tenants have the right to be free from landlord practices such as refusing to rent to members of certain protected classes (such as race, religion, sex, etc.) and punishing those who exercise their legal rights. Landlords must also follow landlord/tenant laws and regulations set by the state, such as not being allowed to keep security deposits for longer than three weeks. Finally, tenants are entitled to reimbursement of their security deposit if they move out and the landlord keeps it.
