What are the requirements for becoming a real estate broker?

In Arkansas, anyone who wishes to become a real estate broker must obtain a real estate broker’s license. To do this, individuals must provide evidence of being at least 18 years old, possessing a high school diploma or its equivalent, and providing proof of successfully completing a real estate pre-license course from a post-secondary educational institution. Additionally, individuals must pass the Arkansas Real Estate Broker Examination, which is administered by the Arkansas Real Estate Commission (AREC). The exam has two parts. The first part covers real estate principles and practices, while the second part covers Arkansas real estate laws and regulations. Applicants must score a minimum of 70% to pass. Once an individual has successfully passed the examination, they must submit a completed application for licensure through the AREC, along with all the necessary supporting documents. The form must include a completed criminal background check, a set of fingerprints, and a license fee paid with a certified check. Once all of these requirements are met, the AREC will issue the individual a real estate broker’s license. It is important to note that in Arkansas, real estate brokers are required to maintain their license by completing continuing education courses in order to stay up to date with the changing laws, regulations, and best practices in the field.
