What is the difference between a buyer’s and a seller’s agent?

A buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent are both real estate agents, but they serve different roles in the real estate transaction. A buyer’s agent is a real estate agent who works on behalf of a home buyer. Their job is to help the buyer find the right property and negotiate an offer on their behalf. A seller’s agent, on the other hand, works for the seller. They help the seller list and advertise their property for sale, and they are responsible for representing the seller in negotiations with potential buyers. In Oregon, a buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent are required to both act in good faith and obey the law, since both parties are trying to reach a successful sale. The buyer’s agent must provide their client with full disclosure of all information related to the sale, and the seller’s agent must present all offers in a timely manner. Both agents must also ensure that all of the necessary paperwork is completed accurately and on time. Ultimately, the responsibility of each agent is to their respective client. The buyer’s agent is obligated to get their client the best price and terms possible, and the seller’s agent must work to get their client the highest price and most favorable terms of the sale.
