Is there a limit on the number of claims I can file in small claims court?
In California, there is a monetary limit on the number of claims you can file in Small Claims Court. The limit is $10,000 per person or $5,000 per claim for the total amount of all claims combined that one person can file. This means that if you have multiple claims against an individual or organization that amount to more than $10,000, then you would only be able to file up to a total of $10,000. However, you may be able to file multiple claims against the same individual or organization for the same amount and still be able to file additional claims for higher amounts. For example, if you have a claim of $2,000 against an individual or organization, you may be able to file four separate $2,000 claims. The total amount of all claims that can be filed in Small Claims Court is capped at $25,000 in California. This means that if you are looking to file any claims that amount to more than $25,000, then you will not be able to file them in Small Claims Court. In this case, you may have to look for alternate methods of filing your claims, such as a regular civil court.
