How do I find out the status of my small claims court case?
In order to find the status of a small claims court case in New York, you will need to contact the court that you initially filed the case in. Each court handles its cases differently, so it’s best to contact the clerk’s office for the court you filed your case in or your local county court. If you made your initial filing with the New York State Supreme Court, you can check the status of your case by logging in to New York State’s online Case Look Up. You simply need to provide the filing number or the name of the court and the litigants. Once you’ve found your case, you will be able to see the status of the case, including any court dates or decisions. If you’re working with a small claims court in one of the five boroughs of New York City, you can call the Clerk’s Office of the court in which your case was filed. The court clerks will be able to provide you with the most up-to-date information regarding the status of your case. You can also contact the lawyer representing you in the case. If you are unrepresented, you can contact the New York State Appellate Division’s Clerk’s Office to find out more information about the status of your case. They should be able to provide you with a status report on the progress of your case.
