How does the university investigate a student defense case?

In Oklahoma, the university investigation for a student defense case is conducted through the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. When a student is accused of misconduct, they will be interviewed by a university investigator to determine the facts of the situation. The investigator can review witness statements, collect evidence, and review any relevant policies or procedures. They can also seek advice from the Office of the General Counsel. Once all of the facts have been gathered, the investigator will review the case and make a recommendation to the Dean of Students or the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities regarding the outcome. The Dean of Students or Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities will then make a decision regarding the student’s discipline. In some cases, the student may have the option to appeal the decision. The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities may also refer the matter to the university’s Office of Judicial Affairs, if the allegations involve more serious offenses. The Office of Judicial Affairs is responsible for deciding whether the student should be charged with a violation of the student code of conduct and, if so, what penalty should be imposed. The Office of Judicial Affairs also handles the appeals process. The university takes student defense cases seriously and wants to ensure fairness and just outcomes for all of its students. Although the university investigation process can be a lengthy and complicated process, the outcome of the case is meant to be fair to all parties involved.
